Many parents and guardians find the thought of travelling with children a scary one. When flying with children from Humberside Airport take a moment to read this guide which we hope will put your mind at rest.

Flying With Children From Humberside Airport...

Use our guide on some helpful advice on things you should consider doing before you embark on travelling with children.

Plane Seating ...

The plane seats normally reserved for families with small children and babies are the bulkhead seats, as in most cases these have facilities for your child. But you do need to check what your airline's policy is with regards to seat allocation when flying with children.

Sometimes you are able to reserve the bulkhead seats before you check-in. Others are allocated at check-in. So double check before your trip to make sure you don't miss out.

Check-in Tips With Children ...

The last thing you want is to be late for check-in - there won't be any bulkhead seats left and worst still you are split up around the plane.

So think carefully about when you need to leave home.

If travelling by car plan your journey carefully. Have you worked out your route. Can you make enquiries to see if there are any planned road works? Is your A-Z in the car in case of any diversions? Be aware of how long you might need once you arrive at the airport for parking your car (advice on this to follow).

Flying Tips For Children ...

When travelling with children and arriving to Humberside Airport by car, it's always best to pre-book your airport parking to avoid any delays.

By booking a meet and greet parking service you and your family can simply and easily drive right up outside the terminal. Here your car will be collected from you by the company Rep. You move straight to check-in, your car gets taken to a safe car park. On your return you make your way out of the terminal where you'll find your car with your Rep and you're free to head straight home. There's no fussing about with a transfer bus, just straight to check-in.

Once at check-in do ask if the flight is full. If it is not full ask to be sat next to some empty seats (if you didn't get a bulkhead seat) so you and your family have a bit more room.

Families are always asked to board the plane first so you have a little more time to get settled and speak to the cabin crew should you need to. Make sure therefore that you get to the boarding gate in good time.

Baby Food & Water - buying overseas ...

Where to Buy Baby Foods Abroad

Travelling overseas with a baby can cause many concerns, least of all how and where you will buy your baby foods. And possibly the biggest concern - what to do about safe drinking water.

Well, in the following section we provide some very helpful advice and unofficial information about purchasing your baby essentials whilst away including foods and nappies and provide essential advice on safe drinking water for baby.

When flying with babies or very young children, to pack a certain amount of baby foods in your suitcases. This is so you can arrive safely at your destination and get settled before rushing off out in a blind panic trying to find formula – it’s especially worth packing some pre-bottled packs of formula milk too - or jars of baby food etc.

Bottled Water For Babies

When overseas, don't give your baby any tap water to drink. It is dangerous and will upset their tummies. You need to buy bottled water for your baby to drink. However, you also need to check its sodium levels. When buying bottled water it’s very important to check that the water brand you are buying contains less than 30 Na of sodium. Water for drinking can be given straight from the bottle, however, for making up formula milk you need to boil it, just as you would in the UK. It's worth noting also, that if you’re travelling to Spain, and some other European Countries, that many of their pharmacies sell specially distilled water for babies.

Powdered Formula Milk

You will need to go to a pharmacy to purchase formula, powdered milk. Don't expect to find, for instance, a familiar Cow & Gate box on the shelf, they are re-branded for overseas markets. In Spain for instance is called Almiron. For more unofficial information about buying your particular brand of milk overseas you should call the telephone advice line on the pack of your milk packet.

Baby Food In Jars

It's easy to find and buy baby food in jars. Just check out your local supermarket, although if you are somewhere remote then try a larger main supermarket. All should stock a good range of baby foods and snacks. As will most pharmacies. Hero is a very available baby food in Spain and across Europe. Hipp is also readily available as are products from Nestle.
Nappies

You can buy nappies in almost all supermarkets where you'll find the main brands like as Pamper and Huggies readily available. It’s important to note that in many European Countries cotton nappies are very rare, particularly in Spain, so if you normally use re-useable nappies then you may need to consider using disposables whilst you are away.
