Airport Parking At Humberside...

Passengers can choose from a good variety of ways to park their car when they arrive at Humberside Airport.

The short stay car park is the better choice for those collecting or dropping off passengers. Or for anyone on a short duration trip.

Those travellers staying away longer than a few days should choose from either the long stay parking option that requires a transfer bus journey to the airport terminal or meet and greet valet parking that simply means passengers drive straight outside the airport terminal.

Valet meet and greet parking means you leave your car with the company Rep right outside the airport terminal. Your car is stored in a safe and secure car park until your return when the Rep will be waiting with your car, again right outside the airport terminal.

This service means passengers can get straight to check-in, saving them time. The service is also hugely convenient when travelling with children or disabilities, at night, or if carrying heavy bags and sports equipment. Business travellers benefit greatly from this service too because of the time is saves.

Prices are very reasonable at around £83 for one week and £118 for two weeks. Do make sure you pre-booking this service to ensure availability.

Fast Track parking is also available from Humberside Airport.  This parking option has an under cover parking area located within the short stay car park and offers an easy route into the terminal.  Prices start from £11.00 for 24 hours or part thereof.

Airport Information ...

You need to check-in as soon as you arrive at the airport so your bags can be taken to be loaded onto the plane. Also, you need to check-in promptly so you can be prepared for any additional security checks that may be necessary.

Security has increased considerably and this can effect the time it takes to check in and get through to departures.

Arrive for check-in with the following time to spare:

Type Of Flight Check In Time
Long Haul Flights 3 HOURS before departure
European Flights 2 HOURS before departure
UK & Northern Ireland Flights 1 HOUR before departure

You must keep your luggage with you at all times when at the airport. You must never let anyone carry your bags for you, or likewise offer to look after or carry another passenger's bags.  This includes your main baggage and your hand luggage.

Alert a member of airport staff if you notice any unattended packages.

You will board from a boarding gate. These are advertised in the departure lounge on screens. Once your gate is advertised make your way to it. Do note that in larger airports some can take up to 30 minutes to reach.

For information on the security checks at Humberside Airport visit the Airport Safety and Security section within this Fly Guide.

Making Your Flight Comfortable ...

We all know that a plane journey can be both uncomfortable and boring. So make sure you plan for your flight by reading our tips below:

Hand luggage - it's not just for your passport, ticket and cash you know. Use your bag to make your flight comfortable.

Will you need on your flight medication, travel sickness pills? Do you want to try and get some sleep, if so pack an eye mask and ear plugs that can help. If there are delays you might want to change your top and even brush your teeth. Flights however long are always made more bearable if you've got a good book to read or a few magazines to flick through. And what about a stereo and some music too?

It's also worth packing some snacks and nibbles, even if you're planning to have a meal on board as these meals can be a bit on the small side. Although remember that Customs won't let you take fruit or dairy products on to the plane.

Cabin pressure causes swollen hands and feet, and dry skin for many of us. So try and prevent this by drinking lots of water to stay hydrated and also try and only have a few alcoholic tipples! Moisturiser will help prevent dry skin so pack a small little pot.

It gets cold on-board a plane so make sure, even if you're travelling in the Summer, that you've got a warm cardigan or jumper.

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is a serious condition we should all be aware off. It's where blood clots develop in the deep veins of the legs. Plane passengers are at risk of developing DVT as they have little or no exercise.

To try and avoid DVT make a conscious effort to walk around the cabin, especially if flying long-haul. Also try wiggling your toes and stretching your legs out.

Visit the Department of Health website - click Here - for advice on who is at risk and how to help prevent it.

  Staying Comfortable When Flying
  1. Upgrade Ask for an upgrade to Business Class or First Class to really feel comfortable during your flight.
  2. Front Row Seats Front row seats, or one by the emergency exits benefit from extra leg room.
3. Aisle Seats Aisle seats mean that one of your party can stretch out their legs and it's easier to get up and down to walk around the cabin.
4. Pillow Trying to get some sleep is a good idea, especially on a long flight so ask the cabin crew for a pillow and blanket. And also pack in your hand luggage an eye mask and ear plugs.
5. Painful Ears Earplanes (other brands available) can help relive painful ears during take off or landing. They equalise the air pressure on each side of the ear drum.  These are also good if you've got a cold or sinus problems.
6. Dehydration Avoid swollen hands and feet and stay hydrated by drinking lots of water during your flight. It's worth taking your own bottle of water onboard.
7. Snacks In case you get hungry and the refreshment trolley isn't on it's way pack some snacks for you all.
8. Anxiety Flight anxiety can be very upsetting so have you tried some simple breathing skills? Or reading a book or try a crossword that you can concentrate on.  Don't be afraid to speak to your Doctor either, who might be able to recommend something to help keep you calm before and during the flight.

Travelling with Children ...

A good way to ensure you have an enjoyable stress-free flight? Prepare properly for your little ones when travelling with children.

You need to pack a little bag for them - their hand luggage - full of fun things to do and games to play. Pack small reading books, colouring books and pencil crayons. Sticker books are also really good to keep them amused. Try making up stories to far away places, reached by plane of course! And travel games that the whole family can play together.

If you've got a young baby who is also travelling with you make sure you have packed the following - a spare change of clothes for any little accidents. A warm jumper or cardigan as it can get very cold on the plane. Plenty of nappies, milk, finger food, a dummy should they use one. Also pack some toys for them to play with. We also recommend bringing a small blanket from home to keep induce sleep.

Disabled Travellers ...

Disabled travellers, or those with special needs, will find that Humberside Airport is well equipped to help with their needs.

It is worth when flying to check that your airline is fully aware of any disability you may have and to check that the inclusion of any special assistance required is included in the price of the ticket.

If travelling in a wheelchair don't be surprised if your airline ask you to use an airport one so they can load yours onto the plane. If this causes you concern contact the airline well before you travel to see if alternative arrangements can be made.

Do consider that in large International airports some of the boarding gates can be very far away, taking up to 30 minutes to reach. Therefore do leave plenty of time to reach these gates, and also consider if it is worth pre-booking a special assistance vehicle.
